About The 59 Niseko

Learn about our Artists specializing in American Traditional, Hong Kong Traditional and Japanese Traditional Tattoos

Japan's Premier Tattoo Studio

59 Niseko started in 2017 in lower Hirafu. In 2022, we moved to our current location in central Kutchan. We are open for walk-ins and appointments from December-March, and appointment-only from April-November.

59 Niseko thrives in the wintertime when the flow of international visitors and Hokkaido residents converges. This snowy season is when the shop truly comes alive, offering its expertise in the art of tattooing. The dynamic energy in the shop is palpable as clients flock to these skilled artists, seeking to wear their stories on their skin.

The tattoo artists at 59 Niseko are not just ink slingers; they are master storytellers. Scott Wentworth, Marcus Yuen, Masaya Kikuchi, Horihan, and Matt Lysiak, each bringing their unique style and technique to the table. The ink they create represents a synthesis of bold black linework, black shading, and vibrant solid colors. Drawing inspiration from images that have adorned sailors for the past century, these artists craft pieces that echo the timeless and storied tattoo culture.

A Meticulous Approach to Tattoo Artistry

The palette we work with is rich and varied. The colors we use weave through designs that pay homage to the classic sailor tattoos while infusing a touch of contemporary interpretation. The strong black linework and high-contrast black backgrounds make these tattoos easily readable, with influences from Japanese woodblock prints evident in the detail and precision.

59 Niseko's approach is personalized and meticulous. Prospective clients are invited to fill out a booking form on their website, which captures the essence of the design they envision – size, placement, color preferences, and budget. A dance of creativity unfolds as the artists interpret these visions, transforming them into tattoo art that tells a story.

A Blend of Style and Inspiration

At The 59 Niseko, we specialize in American Traditional, Japanese Traditional and Hong Kong Traditional Tattoos. This unique blend, influenced by Western sailors and Japanese tattoo artists, creates designs that resonate across borders. Drawing from the legacy of artists like Pinky Yun and Jimmy Ho, who skillfully merged these styles, 59 Niseko's team is inspired by their work and the rich history associated with our art form.

Client satisfaction is paramount at 59 Niseko. Upon submitting a booking request, details are confirmed through email, followed by a link to make a deposit payment online. The shop policies ensure a smooth journey for clients, guiding them from the inception of their idea to the completion of their tattoo masterpiece. 59 Niseko isn't just a tattoo shop; it's a beacon of creativity, tradition, and self-expression.
